Music - Term 1 Update

The Music Department has been off to a great start this academic year, preparing for a calendar full of performance dates. Our practice rooms are full at breaktime and lunchtime, with a buzz from students eager to rehearse for the year ahead.

It has been a pleasure to welcome our new Year 7 cohort and teach them our School Song, a tradition that goes back almost a hundred years - the sound of the school organ and ‘console cunctis’ echoing from the hall is always a welcome one.

We look back on the successes of last year, particularly from our events in Term 6 with the GGS Summer Festival, which saw the School Plaza filled with musical entertainment for the day - alongside wonderful PTA stalls and refreshments. Our Samba Band gave a fantastic performance at the annual Northfleet Carnival, parading and entertaining the crowds throughout Northfleet and Gravesend - a huge well done to all those involved.

Extra-curricular activity continues to grow, and we’re pleased to welcome Mrs Norris, through Kent Music, who has started a School Chamber Orchestra, which has had a very successful first term of rehearsals. We would like to thank a neighbour to the school, Mrs Wallace, for her very kind donation of two electric pianos to the department, which will be put to excellent use by students and staff. Thank you to Mr Griggs for assisting in the transportation of these. Some of our peripatetic instrument teachers still have availability in their schedule, if you are interested in taking one-to-one music lessons please get in contact via mitchellp@gravesendgrammar.com Term 2 will be busy again, with a Big Gig, Christmas Concert and Carol Service and we hope to see you at an upcoming event.
