GGS Health - Term 6

GGS Health - Term 6

With the summer holidays just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to start thinking about how you’ll spend your break — and more importantly, how you’ll make it count. Summer should be about relaxing, recharging, and spending real quality time with the people who matter. It's a chance to reset, get outdoors, move your body, laugh with friends, make memories, and just slow things down a bit. It’s also a great opportunity to take control of your screen time, instead of letting it control you. With more free time, it’s easy to fall into the trap of endless scrolling, swiping, gaming, and doom-scrolling through social media. But too much screen time can impact your mood, sleep, focus, and even your relationships — without you even realising it.

Why not try a Seven-Day Digital Detox this summer and see how it feels to press pause?

Day 1 – Switch off push notifications on your phone, tablet and laptop.

Day 2 – Set daily time limits on your favourite apps – try capping the ones that usually eat up your time.

Day 3 – Set your email and messaging apps to refresh manually, not automatically – or remove them from your phone altogether.

Day 4 – Use a ‘device box’ at mealtimes – everyone puts their phone in and sits down together.

Day 5 – Turn off all screens 90 minutes before bed to help your brain and body wind down.

Day 6 – Choose two 'large' blocks (2 - 3 hours) in your day where you go device-free. Take notice of what you’re doing instead – and enjoy it!

Day 7 – Go completely screen-free for the day. Try something new: read, walk, explore, talk, cook, play, 'live'.

This isn’t about giving up your phone forever – it’s about noticing how much time you give to your devices, and what you might be missing when you’re glued to a screen. You might find you sleep better, laugh more, and feel less stressed. You might also find you’re more present, more creative, and more connected to real life. So this summer, think about how you can balance your time online and offline. Plan little adventures, set goals, move your body, get some fresh air, and find time each day to do something just for fun. The best memories are rarely made on a screen. SET
