Dungeons & Dragons - Term 6 Update

Dungeons & Dragons - Term 6 Update

A Year of Growth and Adventure

This year has been an exciting and transformative one for our Dungeons & Dragons Club. What began as a group of students meeting weekly to explore fantasy worlds has grown into a thriving community of adventurers, storytellers, and problem-solvers. We’ve welcomed many new members this year, from curious beginners to experienced players, all eager to dive into the imaginative and collaborative world of D&D. A particular highlight has been the successful training and development of a new cohort of Dungeon Masters (DMs). These student leaders have taken on the challenge of running their own campaigns, creating immersive worlds, managing gameplay, and encouraging positive teamwork among their peers. Their confidence, creativity and leadership have grown tremendously – and it’s been brilliant to see them shine in their new roles.

Perhaps the most exciting development this term was our whole-staff CPD session, where every member of staff took part in a Dungeons & Dragons adventure. Teachers stepped into the roles of wizards, rogues and fighters, collaborating to solve puzzles and overcome challenges. Beyond the fun and laughter, this session offered staff a hands-on look at the educational value of tabletop roleplaying games. From building communication skills and resilience to encouraging strategic thinking and empathy, D&D has proven itself to be a powerful tool for learning and personal growth – both in and beyond the classroom. A huge thank you to all our student DMs who helped with the day (Dexter Broad 9P, Octavian Bosch 7P, Oliver Carroll 10P, Jon Hermitage 10K, Ralph Watkins 10P, Noah Galinis 10M, Bogdan Ursu 9N) and Mrs Gear-Chattam who put in a huge amount of work to help make the day the success it was. I hope they all enjoyed the challenge of running a game for staff and saw them in a different (more creative and imaginative) light as they sought to dispel the Curse of Hollowspire.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all our Dungeon Masters for their commitment, creativity, and hard work throughout the year. Leading a D&D campaign takes time, preparation, and adaptability—and our DMs have gone above and beyond to ensure that every player has a rich, inclusive, and enjoyable experience. As the summer holidays approach, we encourage all students to keep their imaginations alive – whether that’s through reading, writing, or even running their own D&D sessions with friends and family. We hope everyone has a safe, restful and creative break. We’re already looking forward to September, when the club will reopen its doors to returning heroes and new recruits alike. Whether you're a seasoned player or just curious to see what D&D is all about, there's always room at the table. Adventure awaits!
