Twenty Year 12 students visited the large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. They were lucky enough to be shown around by two scientists who are currently conducting research at the ATLAS detector and were given a backstage look at the cryogenic testing facility. This trip enriches their study of particle physics, which is a key component of the A-level course. The CERN trip was an incredible experience where we had the opportunity to learn and understand its history, who was involved, how it works and the true sheer scale of it - we even went over France's border! We also learnt different processes and professions within CERN, visiting the magnet testing facility and learning of our tour guide's work as a data analyst. This visit included eating at the canteen for CERN workers. On top of the CERN visit, we were able to explore Geneva and swim in Lac Leman (Geneva Lake). Henry Stewart 12AS
