It is difficult to put into words the experience each student and staff member had on the 2024 Sri Lanka Cricket Tour. The group of students created an environment throughout the tour that fostered new friendships and made each person enjoy every second of the trip.
Students developed a resilience to the heat and despite the humid conditions kept their energy and spirits high throughout the games, regardless of the results.
Each of the eight fixtures played throughout the tour brought a different challenge. A couple of close losses by the Under 17s side and one incredible win from the Under 15s side, made the single victory all the more special. The grounds that the students played at was a different experience each time and the boys were fortunate to play at amazing venues.
The tour concluded with an Awards Evening in which the final blue and green caps were awarded for the top run scorers and wicket takers for each team. The winners of the top runs scorer for each team was John Knowles, for the Under 15s and Matthew Bailey, for the Under 17s. The top wicket takers were Thomas Logue for the Under 15s and Rajan Sian for the Under 17s.
Finally, we concluded the awards with the Player of the Tour that was awarded to Matthew Bailey for an excellent batting performance including three half centuries. We finished the evening with the Best Tourist, that went to Harry Lewis for his contributions to team morale and helping those around him. The tour gave students and staff memories that will last for a lifetime.
The behaviour of the students was a testament to the maturity of the group. This group will now move into the senior set up over the next three years. We look forward to seeing these students represent the school in a senior capacity. The impact this tour has had, has made it hard not to replicate.
For aspiring cricketers of the school, keep working hard and you could have the chance to go to Sri Lanka in 2027. BS
