This year's November Big Gig saw some of the most varied performances we've ever had. From 90s hits by Pulp (performed by The Sheriffs) to our School Band performing Golden, the song at the top of this year's charts; from sensational four part vocal harmonies by one of our enrichment bands to trumpet metal (epic!) by our Year 11 and 12s, the gig really had it all! Personally, I have loved seeing our regular performers grow in both confidence and skill over the years - with those who started out back when I was in year 7 now becoming some of our headline acts! This gig also had some of our past stars who have now left the school in the audience, cheering on our emerging talents just like even older students once cheered for them. Overall, the gig was an absolute blast to be at and really showed off the spirit and skills of the GGS community, with performers, lighting technicians and photographers (all students!) contributing to make it an evening to remember. If you missed out this time, I highly recommend checking out a future performance!

As an external student, I had never experienced school gigs at my previous school and the GGS music community has truly broadened my horizons! As I recall, I was fascinated by the stage set up, as well as the impressive quality of every performance when I first took part in the school gig last year. At the most recent gig, I saw a wide range of phenomenal performances - from acoustic vocal guitar ensemble to full heavy metal stage sets - each offering something uniquely spectacular. It’s wonderful to see all my peers enjoying performing on stage and sharing great moments with their friends off stage. As a newly joined member of the Senior band, it was my first time performing in a jazz ensemble and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Personally, gigs are my favourite music events at school. They offer not only incredible performances but also opportunities to bond with the GGS community - including our friends from last year’s A-Level music class who returned to support us!
